With greater scrutiny on how businesses can contribute to their communities, to charities and to championing a more inclusive and generally happy place to work, Social Responsibility is now rightly a mandate for any business; it is also a terrific opportunity.
Ambient People has had the unique opportunity to try and get our approach and processes right on this from the outset, and we’re committed to regularly reviewing our social responsibility to assess what else we can do as we grow.
The best way for us to try and get this right from the start was by making some commitments which will shape our policies, business decisions and act as a basis for a culture we’re proud of.
Initiatives
Partnership with Business In The Community
Because combined resources – and a shared will – can achieve more.
As a fee-paying member of BITC since our very first year, we not only help fund this charity which runs BITC is the Kings Responsible Business Network, but use all of it’s network and resources to help punch above our weight when it comes to Social Responsibility.
The organisation is dedicated to ensuring a fairer and greener world by supporting and developing fairer and greener businesses.
As well as helping us develop approaches and policies to improve our contribution to ED&I, BITC give us access to a range of opportunities to give back.
We’re a small business so we can’t get involved in all the things they do which we’d like to, but we’ve chosen a couple and we’ll do more and more as we grow.
Professional Job Coaching for people struggling to return to work
We know the confidence and value that comes from being able to contribute. And how debilitating it feels when you don’t have the opportunity to do so.
Four of our Leadership Team have undertaken a professional course in Job Coaching via BITC – a course designed specifically to help individuals who are having trouble getting the opportunity to work.
Over a structured six sessions per individual, we work through the very real barriers they face, offering support and advice as well as our experience through a combined 50 years in the hiring industry.
It’s a great way for us to use our practical experience in a way that helps those who need it most.
Commitment to the Opening Doors Programme and Race at Work Charter
It’s not just a commitment to ED&I.
As one of 90+ businesses who have signed up to the Opening Doors Programme run by BITC, and one of hundreds signed up to Race At Work, we’re putting into practice the commitment we have to social responsibility.
This helps us align our vision, our strategies and all of our policies towards becoming a business which has a positive impact on the society we live in and communities we thrive in.
Sponsoring a Local Community Football Team – Boundary Estate F.C.
You know you’ve hit the big time when you get your company name across a football shirt.
While Liam’s attempts to get Ambient People emblazoned across the jerseys of EPL giants Brighton and Hove Albion are yet to get a response, we’ve found a team a little more akin to our size who we support with almost the same level of enthusiasm.
The Boundary Estate is one of the earliest examples of Social Housing anywhere in Europe, dating back to 1890.
When the community football team needed funds to support the club we were more than happy to step up, and as a result, the eagle-eyed wanderer across Hackney marshes of a Sunday morning will no doubt spot the Ambient People fish as no more than a fuzzy blur down the right wing.
